Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple

It is the most popular temple in Rameshwaram which is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga Temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is known for its intricate works, majestic towers and corridors this temple is a fine example of architecture excellence. This temple has 22 theerthams, bathing in which is believed to atone sins of devotees. It is undoubtedly the most important part of a Rameshwaram tour.

Adam’s Bridge

It is a historic bridge that connects India to Lanka built with limestone shoals. It is the connecting bridge that links Dhanushkodi and the Mannar Island of Sri Lanka with a length of 30km. It is well known as Rama Setu. As per history, it was built by the vanara army for reaching Lanka so as to rescue Goddess Sita and kill demon Ravana.

Pamban Bridge

It is claimed to be the first bridge in India which was constructed over a sea. Located around 7 km away from the holy town, it is a cantilever bridge on Palk Strait that connects Rameshwaram Island with the mainland India. This 100 years old bridge contains 143 pillars, each of which is 220 feet in length and 100 tonnes in weight. It is well known as Annai Indira Gandhi Road Bridge.

Dhanushkodi

It lies in the southern tip of Rameshwaram and is delicately covered by waters on all the four sides of it. It is located between the Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean. The beach town was heavily populated prior to the devastation caused by storm of 1964. When seen from a birds eye, the sea is in the shape of bow and arrow. The arrow head is considered to be a sacred place for worship by the Hindus and people from far and wide come there to offer sacred prayers to the deity.

Ariyaman Beach

Located on the side of Palk Bay in the district of Ramanathapuram, it is a 150m wide beach stretching to a length of 2km. It is an ideal place to spend a relaxing time with your friends or family. This beach offers many adventure activities and water sports enthusiasts for the tourists. It also has a children’s park, an aquarium and a museum.

Agni Theertham

Rameshwaram is the home of many famous theerthams and temples. It is one of the 64 sacred baths in India. This pilgrimage holds a significant place among Hindu Devotees, who visit here to offer their prayers and atone their sins by bathing in its holy waters. Holistic rituals such as those for the dead ancestors are performed on the shores of this pristine beach.

Jatayu Tirtham

Located 3.5km from Ramanathaswamy Temple, is known among the Hindu devotees for the sacred pond. It the holy temple constructed in the memory of Jatayu, who was the most loyal eagle of Rama and who helped lord Rama at various instances in getting herbs from the mountains.

Gandhamadhana Parvatham

It was this mountain which was carried by Lord Hanuman on his shoulders to fetch the medicinal herbs to save Laxman. This completely pious and quaint religious spot is 3 km away from the centre of the town. It is highly revered, renowned and worshiped in the southern India. The temple is a massive two storey and Lord rama’s feet are imprinted on the chakra placed in the temple.

Dr.A.P.J Abdul Kalam National Memorial

The everlasting memory of India’s great leader, former president, and a renowned scientist – Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam who always reflected the simplicity, depth, and calmness of Rameshwaram through his life, is remarkably showcased in his memorial. Dr. Kalam’s teachings live through this monument, and ignites the belief in oneself to all those people who visit here. The pilgrimage site of Rameshwaram, where people come to wash away their sins, has now gained a new place, in the form of Dr. Kalam’s memorial, where they could come to gain knowledge.

Swami Vivekananda Memorial

It is a startling orange coloured structure that has an interpretation center, museum as well as an aquarium that showcases a lot of marine species. The memorial near the Gulf of Mannar has a life-size statue of Swami Vivekananda, a photo gallery showcasing his life history and a meditation hall. Both sides of the wall have huge posters and the exhibition showcases Swamiji’s life and messages to make your own life great.
